CPA.com hosts first AI Tax Transformation Symposium to explore AI's impact on the future of tax

Top leaders will convene to examine how AI and automation are reshaping tax services and enabling advisory growth

NEW YORK, Oct. 15, 2026 – Leaders across the tax and accounting ecosystem will convene at the inaugural CPA.com AI Tax Transformation Symposium to exchange ideas, challenge assumptions and share the playbooks they are using to lead tax transformation as AI reshapes compliance work, client expectations and the way firms deliver value.

CPA.com, the trusted partner in accounting and finance transformation, will host the AI Tax Transformation Symposium on Wednesday, Nov. 4, at its headquarters in New York. The invite-only event brings together tax partners, practice leaders, managing partners, technology innovators and policy experts to explore firm practice strategy, talent, technology, pricing and responsible AI adoption, along with the risks and considerations firms need to address to implement AI effectively.

Anchored in the key drivers of the CPA.com Tax Transformation Framework, the full-day agenda covers everything from the shift to tax advisory services, firm transformation playbooks, the future of tax technology, change management, rapid upskilling and value-based pricing. It also features a session with Danny Werfel, former IRS commissioner, and Melanie Lauridsen, vice president of Tax Policy and Advocacy at the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA), who will provide an update on the new Council on AI Risk in Tax and its efforts to refine the AI tax risk framework to ensure it remains practical, relevant and responsive to evolving AI capabilities, industry practices and regulatory expectations.

"Agentic AI is reshaping every practice area, and tax is leading the way," said Erik Asgeirsson, president and CEO, CPA.com. "At the symposium, we'll look at what that means for the firm tax tech stack heading into the upcoming filing season, the business model changes firms need to make, and how the tax service itself, and the outcomes it delivers for clients, is evolving."

Key sessions and speakers include:

  • Firm of the Future Panel: Calling the Plays for Tax Transformation with Lynette Stolarzyk, Baker Tilly; Jan Lewis, AICPA chair, BMSS; and Michael Kline, Citrin Cooperman.
  • Shaping the Future of Responsible AI in Tax: Insights from the Council on AI Risk in Tax with Danny Werfel, former IRS commissioner, and Melanie Lauridsen, AICPA.
  • Future of Tax Technology in Firms, in which tax technology CEOs take on the role of a firm's CTO/CIO and present their vision for the future of tax tools and services.
  • Managing the Game of Change with Shawn Henderson, Wiss.
  • Rapid Knowledge and Skill Building in a New Era with Erin Roche, BPM; Sara Palovick, Withum; and Layna Buthker, Plante Moran.

The symposium will kick off with opening sessions led by CPA.com's Erik Asgeirsson and Brandon Allfrey on tax technology trends and the shift to an advisory-focused firm.
