Social Media for the Digital CPA - Start with Why
By Tom Hood, CPA, CITP, CGMA
I can't wait to be at the second annual Digital CPA Conference next month.
Why, you might ask?
The biggest opportunities for CPAs in today's no/slow growth market are in the technology area, to become Digital CPAs.
So what is a Digital CPA?
My definition is, "A Digital CPA is a CPA who can harness the latest technologies to enhance interaction and collaboration with clients and employers that creates new ways to apply their professional knowledge and analysis to help their clients and/or employers navigate the dynamics of the rapidly changing and complex business environment. In the words of the CPA Horizons 2025 Project, "CPAs...make sense of changing and complex world."
The Digital CPA Conference is designed to help CPAs understand the "why" and "how" of doing this.
I will be speaking on one of my favorite topics, social media. And in the spirit of Simon Sinek (author of a great book, "Start with Why – How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone) I will start with my why you need social media.
In my session titled, How the Digital CPA Leverages Social Media, I will cover the top 5 reasons you need social media in today's rapidly changing and complex world:
1. Becoming a thought leader,
2. Expanding your practice and building your reputation,
3. Staying on top of their practice areas
4. Increasing your productivity by as much as 25%,
5. Connecting and collaborating with your clients and staff.
You will hear the latest research about social media and I'll give you examples of CPAs using social media to develop national niches and even make it on the Wall Street Journal because of their social media activities. A recent report from Deloitte/MIT says you only have one year to "get social" as the trend in social businesses takes hold.
Watch this brief interview I did with the Journal of Accountancy on the "why" behind CPAs and social media.
I look forward to seeing you at the Digital CPA Conference.Connect to me on twitter (@tomhood), facebook, and Linked-In
